SPECIAL EDUCATIONAL NEEDS (SEN) AT DAISY FAYS
“After moving our son to Daisy Fays from another nursery due to his needs (he is neuro-diverse) not being met at that nursery, he is a completely different child. He is back to his usual happy, cheeky, adventurous self and is purely down to work the Manager and the Deputy Manager do with every child. I cannot fault Daisy Fays or the staff and owe them a lot for helping us get our little boy back to himself again.”
At Daisy Fays Nurseries, we understand that every child is unique and deserves a nurturing environment where they can thrive. Our commitment to providing exceptional care for children with Special Educational Needs (SEN) is at the heart of what we do. We believe that by creating a secure, inclusive, and supportive setting, we can help your child reach their full potential.

How Daisy Fays and Cornwall Council support your child.
Following the graduated approach, Daisy Fays makes sure that ALL children have the best experience at Nursery. The staff use their knowledge of childhood development to support and track children during their time with us. Through observations and conversations with parents/carers if we feel a child may need some targeted input in any development area, even if it is for a short period of time, we will support them with.
Staff within the settings are trained to provide, and have support from external agencies, in programmes, such as Early Talk Boost, Communication progression Toolkit, Makaton, Downs Syndrome Education and Neurodiversity Profile toolkit.
Special Educational Needs and Inclusion Funding (SENIF).
Providers can apply for small, single grants, that may be used towards supporting children where there are emerging SEN needs; and the child requires targeted support within the Graduated Response a provider is making for the child. There must be clear evidence of the purpose of the grant and how or why this is going to benefit the child. This financial contribution is allocated on a banded system based on the provision needed to support the child. Daisy Fays will normally use this funding to support children on a reduced ratio. This is however, decided and allocated on a case-by-case basis.
Discretionary Funding.
When a child has been accepted for assessment of an Education Health Care Plan, the local Authority will support the child and the setting, in a similar way to the SENIF, on a higher band to reflect the need for the EHCP assessment. Daisy fays will normally use this to support children on a reduced ratio, decided on a case-by-case basis.
Education Health Care Plan
When a child is going to need a higher level of support or specialist provision, an Education Health Care Plan will support with this. These plans are put in place to support with a higher level of support for children. Unless stated within the document, the child will NOT have1:1 provision, however, they will be on a reduce ratio for their time within the nursery. This funding is claimed for via the local authority supporting the setting with the reduced ratio.
An EHCP will be written with the support from parents/carers, setting SENCO and any other agencies involved such as speech and language, Early Years Inclusion team or the GP. An EHCP is reviewed every 6 months whilst the child is within Nursery and a through transition will be supported when they move to school.
Disabled Access Funding
For parents in receipt of Disability Living Allowance and can prove this. We can claim Disability Access Funding for the setting, and this can be applied for once a year.
DAF is to be used to support accessibility within the setting and to the curriculum, including resources, specific training or reasonable adjustments.
DAF funded resources, remain with the setting if the child moves.
These extra streams of funding to support children will only be applied for with the consent from parents. Most of these documents need input from parents and cannot be done without this. Please see our SEN policy about how parents need to support the setting.
