Co-owner Daisy Fays

Before opening our nurseries, I was fortunate to serve in the Armed Forces and was lucky to travel a lot playing rugby and serving on HMS Monmouth. I was medically discharged from the services in 2010 which then led to opening the nurseries the following year after the birth of our first child. Our first nursery setting opened in Carnon Downs and we are proud to have successful nurseries throughout Cornwall and a fantastic Forest School in Truro.

In my spare time I enjoy renovating and building properties, watching my 2 sons play football, walking the dogs and playing golf.

My Husband and I opened our first nursery at Carnon Downs in 2011 after the birth of our first child. We couldn’t find any suitable childcare, so my mum said, ‘why not start childcare’. Well, here we are some years later. Why Daisy Fays? I am a farmer’s daughter so decided to name the nursery ‘Daisy’ as this was a popular name for a female cow and Fay, as that’s my name. We based the settings on a farm theme as its fun and friendly. I am lucky that my husband and his contractors have been able to create such wonderful settings due to their knowledge in renovating and building premises.

When I have time, I like playing tennis and padel, walking the dogs and watching our sons play football.

Hi, I’m Hannah

Development Officer

I’m Hannah, a Development Officer for Daisy Fays nursery. I have worked within childcare for 13 years and thoroughly love the way that working with children, brings so many joys to a normal working day. My role within Daisy Fays Nursery has ranged from bank staff, lead practitioner, operations manager and to my current role as the Companies Development Officer. Luckily for me, I still work closely with the children and enjoy the fun that brings to my role.

My job role entails supporting the nurseries and managers with the day to day running of the settings. I help implement any government or company updates and support the teams with any challenges they face. I am hands on and approachable and I love getting to know the teams, children and their families.

In my spare time I love sea swimming, live music and getting lost in a good book. I have 2 children and we enjoy camping and board games together as a family.

Lead SENCO

I have worked in Early years for nearly 20 years. I started working in preschools and then went on to become a higher-Level Teaching Assistant when my own 3 children were in school. As they became older, I started working as a qualified Early Years practitioner within day care settings and progressed to become Nursery Manager.

In my last job role I managed a nursery in Hampshire, until my husband and I moved to Cornwall in April. We enjoy doing activities outside, the beach, caravanning and walking the dog. We have a beautiful 3-year-old Granddaughter who we spoil rotten!

As Lead SEN practitioner I am supporting the staff across all of Daisy Fays Nurseries. This may be with practical ideas about how to support children, their families or with paperwork to get external agencies involved, such as speech and language, or extra funding to support the children whilst they are in our settings and during their transition to school. I may be observing children, meeting with agencies, and speaking with parents. The role is varied and evolving with the need of the children within the settings at any given time. I can never imagine not working in childcare. Every day is so different, and every child is unique. It is an amazing privilege to be able to support children through their most informative years, the Early Years.

Hi, I’m Sarah

Hi, I’m Sarah

Apprentice Support Officer

I began my career in Early Years almost 20 years ago and during that time, I have gained extensive knowledge and experience. I am a passionate advocate for Early Years, so it is now a privilege to be supporting the apprentices at Daisy Fays. When children are supported through high quality care involving exciting learning opportunities, I really believe it will foster a lifelong love for learning that will ensure they reach their true potential.

By supporting the apprentices through their training and early days of their careers, I am able to share my passion and commitment to the children in our care. There is no better job in my opinion, children keep you in the moment and if you listen carefully to them, they have a wisdom that all adults can learn from, and they really know how to have fun!

In my personal life, I enjoy walking my dogs and spending precious time with my family. I have also recently been teaching myself how to crochet which is probably my biggest challenge ever!

Hi, I’m Fiona

Hi, I’m Fiona

Accounts Manager

My name is Fiona and my key role within Daisy Fays nursery is finance. I have worked here for 3 years now. My main responsibilities are payroll, invoicing, management accounts, budgets etc and although I have never worked in an early year’s environment before, I enjoy listening to the children learning about various activities and the freedom of enjoying the outside space.

I live on a farm with my retired husband and two dogs. I have two grown up children, two amazing grandsons and a son in law a mother could only wish for. My hobbies include walking, gardening, word games and reading. I used to say cooking but these days I find it a chore & a challenge rather than pleasurable. I am very lucky that on my walks with the dogs I get to say hello to the lovely foals & horses that are near to where I go.

Hi, I’m Sherry

Finance Assistant

I have worked in the childcare sector since 2005 and have been at Daisy Fays since 2022. I work in the accounts department which covers all aspects of finance and admin duties. I am currently studying for my accounting qualification and love doing something new but in an environment I know well.

When I am not at work or studying, I keep busy with my family. We are very outdoorsy with two horses (Boo & Cassie), walking the pooch (Bear), spending as much time at the beach (why wouldn’t you with so many to choose from on our doorstep!) and tending to our land which includes ponds, grape vines, apple orchards, beehives and, our twins’ favourite thing, camping!

Funding Manager

Since finishing schooling at the High School, Truro I have studied for and obtained a range of qualifications including a BA(Hons) Fine Art degree from Winchester School of Art and a PGCE in Early Years from Exeter University. I have held several different posts with some fabulous employers including being a Nanny, working in Preschools, running my own successful business and as a Practice Manager for a children’s Psychiatric Practice as well as being a Personal Account Manager for a High Street Bank.

All of this has led to my current position in the funding team for Daisy Fays, where my main roles are to help parents obtain the correct funding, apply for that funding from Cornwall Council and allocate the funding to their children/s schedules.

As a family we love cooking, eating and having picnics. I like to buy and sell second hand clothes.

Hello, I’m Andrew Hicks and I’m the head chef at Daisy Fays Nurseries. I joined here at daisy fays in March 2020 and can honestly say it is the most exciting, rewarding, and satisfying job I have ever done. In my spare time I enjoy spending time with my family, cooking, swimming, bike riding and rugby.

I’m also a qualified rugby coach at Truro rugby club where my two sons play.

Hi, I’m Zoe

Assistant Chef

Hi I’m Zoe, I’m the assistant chef here at Daisy Fays. I have been here for nearly 6 months, but I already feel at home as part of the team. Food is my passion, I have always worked in the food/hospitality industry. Before working here I made Cornish pasties for the last 11 years and before that I was a chef in a pub for 10 years at one of our local beauty spots here in Cornwall. In my spare time I spend a lot of time at home, as my husband and I are renovating our 1750 cottage, I love to eat out , I find it great for getting inspiration for when I’m trying out new ingredients at home. I have a 25-year-old son, I miss him being little, one of the lovely things about working here is watching and hearing all the children play, its nice to have the reminder of when he was small.
