At Daisy Fays, we know that feeding your baby is deeply personal. Whether you choose to provide breast milk, formula, or a combination of both, our role is to support your feeding choices with care, respect and the highest standards of hygiene and safety.
This article outlines how we safely store, prepare and handle breast milk and formula, ensuring every baby is fed in a calm, nurturing and secure environment.
Supporting Breastfeeding Families
We are proud to support breastfeeding families and happily accept expressed breast milk at our nurseries.
To ensure safety and quality, breast milk should be provided in sterilised containers or specialist breast milk storage bags. All breast milk is stored immediately in a refrigerator at 4°C or below.
Breast Milk Storage & Handling
- Freshly expressed breast milk can be refrigerated for up to three days from the date of expression.
- Frozen breast milk must be no older than six months.
- Frozen milk is thawed safely either in the refrigerator or by placing the container in a jug of warm water until fully defrosted.
- Once prepared, breast milk will be discarded after one hour if not consumed.
For clear identification and safe handling, all containers or storage bags must be clearly labelled with:
- Your child’s full name
- The date of expression
- The amount expressed (in fluid ounces)
These careful procedures ensure that your baby receives their milk safely, comfortably and in line with best practice guidance.
Formula Feeding at Daisy Fays
We fully support formula-fed babies and offer two flexible options for providing formula milk, allowing parents to choose the method that best suits their routine.
Method 1: Formula Provided in Original Packaging
- Formula must be supplied unopened and in its original packaging.
- Practitioners will record the date the container is opened and the date it should be returned home (one month after opening).
- Parents will be informed when a replacement is required.
- Each formula container must be clearly labelled with your child’s name and the volume of water (in fluid ounces) needed per feed.
Method 2: Pre-Portioned Formula
- Formula can be provided in individual, labelled containers, each showing:
- Your child’s name
- The number of scoops measured
- The exact volume of water required (in fluid ounces)
- Formula milk is freshly prepared as needed using freshly boiled water.
- Any prepared formula not consumed within two hours will be safely discarded.
We kindly advise parents not to use milk bottles as formula storage, as this can affect accurate water measurement. Providing an extra portion of formula as a backup is also recommended.
Bottles and Daily Supplies
Parents are asked to provide an adequate number of sterilised bottles for each nursery day. Bottles must be clearly marked with measurement indicators in fluid ounces or millilitres, allowing practitioners to prepare feeds accurately and safely.
Important Guidance on Cow’s Milk
For health and nutritional reasons, cow’s milk is not given to infants under 12 months of age at Daisy Fays.
A Calm, Safe and Nurturing Feeding Experience
Feeding time is about more than nutrition — it is a moment of comfort, connection and care. Our experienced practitioners follow strict hygiene procedures and handle every feed with professionalism and warmth, ensuring babies feel secure and settled.
We believe open communication is key. If you have specific feeding routines, preferences or changes, we encourage you to discuss these with your child’s key person so we can provide consistent care between home and nursery.

At Daisy Fays, we respect every family’s feeding choices and are committed to supporting your baby’s individual needs. By working closely with parents and following clear, safe procedures, we ensure every child receives the very best start.
