CHILDCARE FUNDING EXPLAINED: How We Support Families

Navigating childcare funding can be confusing, but Daisy Fays is here to help. We accept a variety of government schemes, including the 15 and 30-hour free childcare for eligible families. Our team will guide you through the application process, ensuring you receive the support you’re entitled to. Whether you’re a working parent or looking for part-time care, we strive to make high-quality childcare accessible to all families in Cornwall.

Understanding Your Options

There are several government schemes available to help families with the cost of childcare. Here’s a breakdown of the main options:

15 Hours Free Childcare: All 3 and 4-year-olds in England are entitled to 15 hours of free childcare per week for 38 weeks of the year. This universal entitlement helps ensure that every child has access to early education, regardless of their family’s financial situation.

30 Hours Free Childcare: Working parents of 3 and 4-year-olds may be eligible for an additional 15 hours of free childcare per week, bringing the total to 30 hours. To qualify, each parent (or the sole parent in a single-parent family) must earn at least the equivalent of 16 hours at the national minimum wage per week, but less than £100,000 per year.

Tax-Free Childcare: This scheme is available to working families, including the self-employed, with children under 12 (or under 17 if disabled). For every £8 you pay into your childcare account, the government will add an extra £2, up to £2,000 per child per year (or £4,000 for a disabled child).

Universal Credit: If you’re claiming Universal Credit, you may be able to get up to 85% of your childcare costs covered. This support is available for children up to the age of 17.

Childcare Vouchers: Although the Childcare Voucher scheme is closed to new applicants, existing members can continue to benefit from it. This scheme allows parents to exchange part of their salary for vouchers to pay for childcare, which can save money on tax and National Insurance.

Support While You Study: If you’re in full-time higher education, you might be eligible for a Childcare Grant to help with childcare costs. This grant can cover up to 85% of your childcare expenses.
